Trade Coffee · Subscription

Coffee Gift Subscription

Who it's for
Someone who likes trying new roasters and would rather not pick the coffee.
Why it's here
Gift lengths of 3, 6 or 12 months. Coffee is roasted to order and matched to the recipient's taste, and you choose the day the gift email goes out. Trade says it will swap the first coffee if it misses.
The tradeoff
The shortest gift is 3 months, prepaid. Trade picks each coffee, so the giver doesn't.

Counter Culture Coffee · Subscription

Single-Origin Gift Subscription

Who it's for
A person who is happy to drink whatever the roaster is excited about this month.
Why it's here
One or two 12 oz (340 g) single-origin bags per shipment, chosen by Counter Culture's coffee team, for 3, 6 or 12 months. You set how often it ships.
The tradeoff
The shortest gift is 3 months, billed per shipment. The coffee rotates every two weeks, so a favorite doesn't stick around.

La Colombe · Subscription

Cold Brew Gift Subscription

Who it's for
Someone who wants cold brew in the fridge without making it.
Why it's here
One shipment a month of cold brew cans, concentrate or a fridge pack, plus an e-card to announce it.
The tradeoff
The shortest plan is 3 prepaid monthly shipments. It's finished drinks, so there's nothing to brew.

Bodum · Maker

BEAN Cold Brew Coffee Maker, 1.5 L

1500 mLImmersionMixed

Who it's for
Someone who wants a big batch and a plunger instead of filter paper.
Why it's here
A 1.5 L immersion brewer with a plunger lid and a BPA-free plastic carafe. Every part is dishwasher-safe.
The tradeoff
Bodum's instructions call for about twice your usual amount of coarse coffee and 12 to 24 hours in the fridge, so it uses a lot of beans and needs a day's notice.

Peet's Coffee · Beans

Baridi Blend

Who it's for
A coffee drinker who would rather start from a roast built for ice than choose one.
Why it's here
A medium-roast blend that Peet's uses for cold brew in its own coffeebars. The flavor notes Peet's lists are citrus flower, blackberry syrup and cocoa. The bag is 16 oz (454 g).
The tradeoff
It's a house blend meant to taste the same every time. Someone who likes trying single origins will find it predictable.

Intelligentsia · Beans

Cold Coffee Blend

Who it's for
People who like their cold coffee fruit-forward.
Why it's here
A blend of Ethiopian and Guatemalan coffees that Intelligentsia says is curated for cold brew and flash chill. Its tasting notes are caramel, citrus and dried apricot.
The tradeoff
It's bright by design, so someone who wants chocolatey, low-acid cold brew should get the Onyx below. The 12 oz (340 g) bag is a quarter smaller than Peet's.

Onyx Coffee Lab · Beans

Cold Brew

Someone who wants a dark roast and only drinks it cold.
Why it's here
A Colombian coffee with a long, dark roast. Onyx says it was sourced and roasted for cold brew and designed for cold extraction only. Its tasting notes are cocoa and dates.
The tradeoff
It's built for cold brew and nothing else, and at 10 oz (283 g) it's the smallest bag here.

Hario · Maker

Mizudashi Cold Brew Coffee Pot, 1000 mL

1000 mLImmersionPolyester meshGlass

Who it's for
A first cold brew maker for someone who wants a week's batch.
Why it's here
A 1,000 mL heatproof glass pot with a removable polyester-mesh strainer. It steeps for about 8 hours in the fridge, and it's dishwasher-safe.
The tradeoff
Hario's manual asks for medium-fine grounds and says coarse grounds make a weak brew, so a grinder set for usual cold brew needs adjusting. Hario says to drink it within 2 to 3 days.

Takeya · Maker

Cold Brew Coffee Maker, 2 qt

1890 mLPlastic

Who it's for
Someone who wants to brew, store and pour from one pitcher.
Why it's here
A 2 qt (1.89 L) pitcher in BPA-free Tritan, with an airtight lid and a fine-mesh filter. It's dishwasher-safe, and Takeya calls it shatter-resistant.
The tradeoff
At 31 cm (12.2 in) tall it won't fit some fridge door shelves, so measure first. It's plastic, so it won't look like the glass pots.

Toddy · Maker

Home Cold Brew System

ImmersionFeltMixed

Who it's for
Someone who wants a jar of concentrate in the fridge and doesn't mind a long steep.
Why it's here
Steep at room temperature for 8 to 24 hours, then drain through a reusable felt filter into a glass decanter. Toddy says 12 oz of coffee makes about 36 to 38 oz of concentrate.
The tradeoff
Felt filters wear out. Toddy says to use one up to 10 times and replace it after 3 months, and recommends hand-washing the reusable parts.

946 mL

Who it's for

Why it's here
A 32 oz (946 mL) carton of organic concentrate, mixed 1 part to 3 parts water. Wandering Bear says each carton makes 21 servings at 150 mg of caffeine each.
The tradeoff

Hario · Maker

Cold Brew Coffee Pitcher

1000 mLImmersionStainless meshGlass

Why it's here
A 1,000 mL heatproof glass pitcher with a glass handle, a reusable stainless steel strainer and a silicone seal.
The tradeoff
It holds the same 1,000 mL as the Mizudashi but sits a price band higher. The extra money buys the stainless strainer and the looks.

OXO · Maker

Good Grips Cold Brew Coffee Maker

1183 mLImmersionStainless meshMixed

Who it's for
Someone who wants a big batch of concentrate without wringing out filters.
Why it's here
It steeps 284 g of coffee in 40 oz (1.2 L) of water for 12 to 24 hours, then a switch drains it through a stainless mesh filter into a borosilicate glass carafe. OXO's perforated top spreads the water over the grounds. A batch makes 24 to 28 oz of concentrate.
The tradeoff
Only the glass carafe goes in the dishwasher, and the rest is hand-wash. At 24 cm square and 37 cm tall, it takes a corner of the counter for a day.

Cuisinart · Maker

Concentra Cold Brew & Coffee Concentrate Maker

PressureStainless meshPlastic

Who it's for
Someone who wants cold brew today, not tomorrow.
Why it's here
An electric machine that pushes room-temperature water through the grounds under low pressure and a stainless steel filter. It makes up to 16 oz of cold brew or 2 oz of concentrate per cycle, in as little as 5 minutes by Cuisinart's account.
The tradeoff
It plugs in, makes one drink at a time and is hand-wash only. The coffee comes out at room temperature, so it goes over ice.

Hario · Grinder

Skerton Pro Ceramic Coffee Mill

Mixed

Who it's for
Someone who has beans but no grinder, and doesn't mind cranking.
Why it's here
A hand mill with conical ceramic burrs and an adjustment nut. The grounds land in a borosilicate glass bowl that holds 100 g.
The tradeoff
Grinding a cold brew dose by hand takes real effort, and a big batch takes more than one 100 g bowl.

Opus 2 Conical Burr Grinder

Mixed

Who it's for
Someone who brews every way at home, including cold brew on the weekend.
