Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site pay us when you buy. Here's which ones, what that means for you, and what it doesn't change.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link to a store or brand that carries a tag identifying this site. If you click it and buy, the company pays us a commission. You pay the same price either way.
Pages with an affiliate link carry a notice in the footer. In the page's code these links are marked rel="sponsored", the marking search engines ask for.
Who pays us
- Brand programs. Some roasters, subscription services and gear makers run their own affiliate programs, usually through a network such as Impact, Awin or CJ. Where a brand has one, we link to that brand through it.
Plenty of links earn nothing. A product without a program links to the maker's own page, with no tag and no commission, and it's treated like every other pick.
How picks are chosen
Commission never puts a product on a list. It can decide which store we link to: a brand's own program over Amazon when both carry it.
What does decide a pick: published specs from the manufacturer, what the product costs you to own (cleanup, batch size, filters, a grinder you'll also need), and who it suits. Every pick states its tradeoff. How we choose products has the full list.
Research roundups and tested guides
Every gear page carries one of two labels, and they mean what they say.
- Research roundup The page is built from the manufacturers' published specs and the research in the Lab. We haven't used the products. These pages have no scores or ratings, and they don't say "we tested."
- Tested We used the products, and the page says when. The measurements are published as a Lab file with the raw data. No page carries this label yet.
Newsletter emails follow the same rule. A link that pays us is flagged right next to it.
